My Favorite Guitarists

If I have to pick, my favorite musical instrument is the guitar. As cool as theremins and zithers are, no instruments are as vital to the music I listen to as guitars. And so here's a list of my favorites--some may have extraordinary technical ability, some may be extremely innovative, etc. But all (or at least the top half of the list) have influenced me and many others to play the guitar, with their axe-wielding awesomeness. So here it is. (It may be pretty obvious, but the names of the guitarists are in bold, and their bands follow in italics. For bands with more than one great guitarist, I just lumped the two together because I'm not always sure who's doing what. And usually both are pretty darn good.)
